Ready Player One by Ernest Cline Book Review

After humanity lost their source of oil, the world was in wrecks. People went homeless and lost their jobs. Their only escape of reality is the OASIS, a virtual reality created by James Halliday. Ready Player One follows a story about Wade, a teenager who is a gunter, a person who is dedicated to finding the hidden treasure in OASIS which was hidden by its creator after he died. In this quirky book, Wade manages to find the first of three clues, and finds out that the competition might not be as ‘virtual’ as he thought…

“Going outside is highly overrated."

Ready Player One is one of the most unique book I have ever read. I’m amazed by how detailed and how well thought-out the world of OASIS is. When Wade’s trailer got bombed and when Daito was killed, I was shocked by how much the Halliday Egg Hunt impacted the world. Even though it was already described in the book, I wasn’t taking it seriously until these things happened. I really appreciated how Ernest Cline highlighted that friends you meet online are real friends. I also really liked how he bravely wrote about characters who are actually imperfect in appearance because in my opinion, in most books, the characters are mostly always perfect in appearance (even if they themselves don’t think that). It was extremely cool how he tied that ’80 pop culture in every single one of the book’s page. The final battle was one of the coolest thing ever because of how many little details of the ‘80s were put in it.

I enjoyed this book very much, and I highly recommend it to anybody who is a nerd at heart like me :D

  1. I loved this book! Being a video gamer myself I was able to remember some of the references of games in the book even though some were WAY before my time lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
